New Book Release - The COAST of MAY

Once again natural history writer Marnie Reed Crowell shares her love of the natural world, this time in fiction—the tale of an island, a summer in Maine, and the ways in which we cope with change.
Anna, a successful botanical artist, is forced to put her work and her life on hold to care for her injured granddaughter May, whose father is on the other side of the earth, deployed somewhere in Central Asia. How do we heal ourselves and our world? No island is completely an island anymore. We cannot hide from local and global threats or from the swift pace of change. How do we—and this endearing cast of Islanders—look at women, old and young? How do we deal with people with abilities different from our own, and how do we interrelate with those who come from cultures other than our own?

Lobsters, eagles, wildflowers, mushrooms, insects—they all star in this story. You’ll meet characters that make you laugh and cry, as well as those you’ll love to hate. You know them all; they’re your neighbors. This old-fashioned novel about today and tomorrow examines the Big Questions of life and celebrates the smallest details, the very miracle of living.
